E-learning. Future World

As you look into the possible future of the educational landscape, what sort of impressions, fears, or possibilities crossed your mind?

My first impression about the video on N2015 was that all gadget used are very impressive and advance from the technology we have now. As compared to now, it is a very huge transition. It is no doubt that it is a very interactive and advance way of approaching of doing things.

The new technology helps to make real life situations/problems simpler. For example a new way of booking a taxi. No waiting time. Just a simple text message needed. This helps to save time and very convenient.

For students, sharing file immediately, without needing internet connections is a very useful tool. Thus would enable them to share information easily and very conveniently. However primary school students to handle this, is not practical as the gadget looks fragile and very expensive and very much advanced compared to what they might have now.

Although it is indeed a very good technology to be used, some would still prefer the old traditional ways of living as getting used to the technology might be difficult for them especially the older generations. They might not want to try the new gadget. Nevertheless, some might want to try it but this again will take some time for them to get used to it.

What might living, learning and working be like in the future?

Living would be rather simple and more convenient and saves time, however this come with a price as well in terms of standard living which will be very high as much advanced as the technology.

Learning for students would be more interesting as they get to be very independent and just a click they can get information very fast.

In terms of working life, peoples are more engaging and used technology as a form of communication. Be it for doctors or taxi drivers.

How is NIE preparing you to prepare your students for this possible future? How might you prepare yourself?

In NIE, we used different learning approach compared to what we usually used in poly and secondary school. The introduction of the use of pbworks does help us in terms of collaborating with our group members. Pbworks is very useful when it comes to situation where students cannot come to school due to varied reasons such as public holidays. Teachers can monitor their progress and in a way feedback them on their work.

Different strategies and teaching approach that incorporate ICT is also introduced where we get exposed and learn more. Blogging especially is quite new for me as I do not do blog before this. It can be engaging if we have blogs for the class for our students for them to let us know how they feel and give feedback. Incorporating game based learning is also useful for students to be using in the future.

During our learning here, teachers will also keep on reminding us on how we will be using our pedagogy in school. This ways, we will keep in mind and be more prepared on the possible outcomes and know how to address the difficulty by sharing it among student teachers in class.

The most important point to bring about for my future teaching career is to be open minded and accept and adapt any new technology. As students nowadays are more technology savvy, sometimes we do learn from them and that’s how we learn as well.
